Hundreds of years ago Palma was in the grip of a terrible plague which was finally ended when the bones of St Sebastian were brought to the city. To give thanks St Sebastian was proclaimed the patron saint of Palma on 20th January 1524. These days Palma celebrates this date with a mighty fiesta featuring live music, feasting and fireworks which lasts for days and now also encompasses the Fiesta of San Antonio too!
So what's happening? The fiesta officially opens on 15th with live music performances in the Plaza de Cort, on the 16th you can see vintage cars at the Parc de Ses Estacions from 10.00 until 16.00 and on 17th the Blessing of the Animals to honour San Antonio takes place in Calle San Miguel.
The 19th, the eve of San Sebastian is traditionally the big day for celebrations with live music all over the city. Each of the 10 squares has a different style of music so there's something for everybody. Here's what you can see
Plaza Mayor, 19.00 – parade of giants and big heads, music and fireworks an live music with Balladors de Lluc, Caliu, homage to Bel Cerdà and Soler, Xaloc and Loquillo.
