U.S. authorities scrambled fighter jets because Air France did not immediately respond to U.S. government requests for information. The Airbus A-330 plane, Flight 22 from Charles de Gaulle Airport, landed in a secure area at Kennedy Airport, between runways 22L and 22R, to be searched. It was not believed to be a credible threat. The Maryland State Police Fusion Center received an anonymous call at about 6:45 a.m. of a "chemical weapons threat" aboard the flight. Officials tried to reach Air France but it is also a holiday in France, so two fighter jets were scrambled out of an abundance of caution. The passengers and crew didn't see them. They broke off at 10,000 feet so they wouldn't interfere with commercial traffic. A senior federal official said the caller did not identify himself and the number was untraceable. The caller said four flights had devices onboard but specified only the Air France flight. So far a security check has turned up nothing.

Dreigementen tegen vliegtuigen NY
Twee Amerikaanse gevechtsvliegtuigen
hebben na een dreigement een toestel
van Air France begeleid dat onderweg
was naar JFK Airport in New York.Ook
andere vliegtuigen in de regio New York
worden gecontroleerd na dreigementen.
Bij het Air France-toestel had een
anonieme beller gezegd dat er een
chemisch wapen aan boord was,maar er is
niets gevonden.Twee andere toestellen
op JFK zouden ook worden doorzocht.
Ook op het vlakbij New York gelegen
vlieveld van Newark zouden twee
toestellen worden gecontroleerd.Door de
controles lopen honderden reizigers
vertraging op.
